AI Agents Are Dead? Alice AI Office Hub Says Only the DIY Kind — Local Businesses Are Hiring Trained Agents Instead
A claim circulating on social media declares the AI-agent business finished. A Wilkes-Barre company that builds AI office staff for local service businesses says the obituary is half right — and the half it gets wrong is the opportunity.
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — October 16, 2026 — A claim circulating on social media declares that "AI agents are dead," arguing that now that ChatGPT ships its own agent tools, building agents for businesses is finished. Alice AI Office Hub, a Wilkes-Barre company that builds AI office staff for local service businesses, says the obituary is half right — and that the half it gets wrong is the opportunity.
What is actually dying is the generic do-it-yourself chatbot: the blank box with a business logo pasted on it, set up in a weekend, never trained on the business's prices, never connected to its phone line or calendar, and broken every time the underlying platform changed. That product is finished.
The category itself shows no signs of slowing. Smith.ai charges from $150/mo. Ruby charges $250 for 50 minutes of human answering. Slang AI charges $399 per location. "Dead categories don't charge like that," the company notes. "Those prices exist because business phones keep ringing, and owners keep paying to get them answered."
The company's counter: the speed of AI is itself the strongest case for renting rather than building. Every platform update is another evening a business owner would have to spend rebuilding a bot by hand. Instead, owners are hiring trained agents that are done-for-you — configured on their prices and services, connected to their phone line, and updated for them.
That is the model behind the company's new Agent Storefront, launched this week. It offers nine AI agents, each a company named for its job — from a receptionist and an estimator to a review agent and an oversight agent — that quote from customer photos, follow trade checklists, and collect deposits. Visitors can name an agent, talk to it live on the page, and start any agent for $1 for a 3-day trial. Two agents are live now; the remaining seven are offered as founding reservations at locked prices.
"Business owners don't want homework. They want the phone answered. Every time the big platforms change something, a do-it-yourself bot breaks, and the owner pays for it in missed calls. Our agents are hired help — trained on your prices, working your phone line, updated for you. That's not dead. That's a job description." — Madison Hoskins, Founder, Alice AI Office Hub and Capital 7 Logistics
